What do I want to learn to facilitate?

The students who come to the Community Learning Centres are often juggling work and family as well as study. I would like to run more online synchronous/asynchronous workshops and experiment with communication technology so that students could have more flexible access to resources and support, to develop an online community of learners making learning more social. Also creating resources and experiences that appeal to a more visual/audio and kinesthetic learning style.
These are my initial thoughts but I look forward to being inspired by how others are using the technology.
At the present time we do not have any online facilitation options for students. I want to  create resources that can be viewed and used online using video, blogs, slide shows, interactive meeting places such as Elluminate etc. By creating online resources I hope the learning will be more accessible for students. By using the technology students are benefiting from experiential learning making it relevant and purposeful to them.

Meeting course participant

It is great to see (meet) such a diverse group of participants from all over the world, doing this course for very different reasons.
I look forward to selecting and following participants with similar interests in this course.

Who am I and why am I here?

My name is Lorna. I live in a small suburb of Dunedin called Seacliff and work at Otago Polytech as a facilitator at the Mosgiel Community Learning Centre.
I came to New Zealand 27 years ago and now call it home. My roots are in the highlands of Scotland but I grew up on the South Coast of England near Bournemouth.
I believe in life long learning and enjoy being able to learn something new every day. In my job as a facilitator it is great to be able to see the pleasure other people get out of learning as well.
Communication technology has changed our lives and keeping up with the changes is a challenge in our busy schedules. Once these technologies can be learnt and used to their full potential they can be used to benefit so many spheres of our lives.
I am joining this course to improve my facilitation skills and to find out the full potential of using online communication. On the way I expect to have more ideas about why I am doing this course and how I am going to apply my knowledge.
Always an opportunist!
